Fifth Grade Policies

5th grade homework policy

Late assignments will  result in a dropped star level.
Late assignments may result in a lunch detention.

Students will complete their work after eating lunch and will lose any recess/free time.
If there are three missing assignments within one week, students may
receive an after-school detention.*

STARS for "Your Character Counts"
Students are on a reward and consequence system for behavior using five levels.
Students not displaying positive character move down a level.
All fifth graders who stay within the five levels are eligible for a monthly reward.
Please check for notes in assignment notebooks regarding
any daily behavior concerns.  Thank you for your support!
*If students are "off the chart", they may receive a lunch detention for
missing assignment, misbehavior, etc.*

Assessment "Re-take" Policy

ALL STUDENTS WILL HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO RECEIVE ADDITIONAL INSTRUCTION DURING THEIR HALF-HOUR LUNCH SESSION.
STUDENTS WILL THEN BE ALLOWED TO RE-TAKE AN ASSESSMENT TO BETTER THEIR SCORE.
THE GOAL IS FOR ALL STUDENTS TO MASTER THE EXPECTED SKILLS AT THEIR GRADE LEVEL.

MANDATORY POLICY:  If students receive lower than 76% on an assessment, they will be expected to:
  ·         Re-take the assessment.

        ·         This will occur after the student attends a lunch tutoring session(s) with an educator.  During the session, the student will receive additional instruction to prepare for skills not yet mastered.

NON-MANDATORY POLICY:  If a student receives a 76% or higher, they will be expected to:

       ·           Schedule a tutoring session for additional instruction.  After the tutoring session, they will be allowed to re-take the assessment.

THIS POLICY IS NOT TO BE TAKEN FOR GRANTED.  TEACHERS MAY USE THEIR DISCRETION TO LIMIT TEST TAKING OPPORTUNITIES.
THIS WILL BE DETERMINED ON AN INDIVIDUAL BASIS, WHICH MAY BE BASED ON BEHAVIOR, EFFORT, AND NECESSITY.
