JUNIOR COUNCIL SERVICE PROJECT FOR ’08-’09 SCHOOL YEAR

Our Junior Council will be conducting a service project throughout this school year and we need your help and support.  SMS has three students that have siblings serving in the military.  We would like to send each of these soldiers a care package each month to share with their platoon.

We would like each grade level to be responsible for collecting these items for one month from their classmates. 

Nov.-Dec.—Fifth grade

Jan.—Sixth grade

Feb.--Seventh grade

March--Eighth grade

Junior Council representatives will visit each classroom to explain the project.  Three boxes will be provided to you when it is your grade level’s turn.  The representatives will have suggestions for items for your students to collect.  It is mostly hygiene products, snacks and entertainment items. 

We had thought we would do one big collection school wide, but we were afraid we would be overwhelmed with items and the postage.  You also have to send items now to an individual soldier and we felt that would be too much for one person to distribute to their comrades. We feel this will be more manageable for all involved.
