TRACK & FIELD DAY
Track & Field Day will be held
on May 23rd and there is no rain date. SESSION 1:
Kindergarten through 2nd grade will start at 9:00am and end
at 11:30am. SESSION 2: Third and Fourth grade will start at Noon
and end at 2:30pm. Each class will
travel to each activity and then move on to another when they are
finished. They will be able to take
breaks on their own and move at their own pace.
Many events will be held that each
student will participate in. We do not focus on individual scores but each team
is trying to beat the activities record.
If you would like to volunteer to
work an activity for either the first session or second session, please contact
Mr. Moris at morisw@somonauk.net
Some of the events are:
Sunflower seed Spit- How many sunflower seeds can a team spit on the target? The team with the most seeds on the target has the “record.” Each team is trying to break the “record.” The team will be in a circle with the target in the middle. Students must stay outside the circle. Students may spit only one seed at a time. When they spit all of their seeds in their cup they are done. Count seeds on the target.
Shoe Kick- Each team member will kick off their shoes one at a time and the longest kicked shoe will be measured. The team with the longest kick will have the “record.” Have each team kick at the same time. Mark the longest shoe kicked with a flag. The flag represents the “record”. Each team is trying to break the “record”.
Shuttle Run- (The whole team will be timed. Relay fashion.) The team that has the fastest time has the “record.” Each team is trying to break the “record”. The beanbags will be 30ft from the starting position. The first person in line will run down pick up a beanbag and run back to the start line and place the bag down. Then, they will run back and pick up the second bag and place it on the finish line. The next person will pick up a bag and race to the line and drop the bag and run back to pick up the second bag and take it to the line. So on and so forth through the line. Start the timer on GO and stop it when the last team member crosses the finish.
Jump Rope Relay- (Relay fashion. The whole team’s number of jumps will be counted.) How many jumps can a team do? The team with the most jumps has the “record.” Each team is trying to break the “record.” One person on the team will jump rope for 30 seconds. The rest of the team will count the jumps (The judge may want to count too.) Each time the rope goes under the jumper’s feet will count as one. After 30 seconds, switch jumpers. The next person will jump for 30 seconds and the team will count the jumps. Continue this until the entire team has gone. When a new person starts to jump, start counting from the number that was from the last jumper. Each team should end with a large number.
50 Yard Dash- (Relay fashion. The whole team will be timed.) How fast can each team run 50 yards? The team with the most jumps has the “record.” Each team is trying to break the “record.” Half the team will stand at one end and the other half at the other end. The first person will run to the other line and high five the next person. That person will run back and this is done until everyone has gone. Start the timer on GO and stop it when the last team member crosses the finish. (If time allows have them do it again to see if they can do it faster.)
Fling the Critter- There will be three people from a team going at a time. The class with the most points will have the “record.” Each team is trying to break the “record.” Each person will have a paddle and some bean bag critters. They will put a critter on the paddle and do an underhand toss to the buckets. If a critter lands in a bucket, the team will get that number of points labeled on the bucket. After the three people are finished have them pick up the critters and have a new group of three toss. Add up all the points for the team when finished.
Track Relay- Each team will line up at the start line. The first person from a team will run the track and continue to the finish. Once that person is finished the next person will go. Time the entire team and the fastest time will have the “record.” Each team is trying to break the “record.”
Picking Up Marbles- (Shoes & socks off) The team will stand around the marbles on the ground (Divide the team in half if it is too large). Each group is given 1 minute to collect as many marbles as they can with their toes and put into a bucket. Count the total number of marbles in the bucket. Record the number of marbles in the bucket and see if it is a “record” or not. Each team is trying to break the “record”.
Team Bowling- Each team is trying to get the bowling pins down as many times as possible in one minute thirty seconds. There will be one person standing at the pins, one at the center cone and the rest at the back cone. The person in the middle will start with the ball. They will roll it towards the pins. This person will then run up to the pins and set them up if they knocked any of them over. The person at the pins will pick up the ball and run to the middle cone. They will hand off the ball to the person that is running up to the middle cone from the back cone. After they have handed off the ball, they run and line up behind the back cone. After one minute thirty seconds, record the number of pins that have been knocked down and that is the record. If time allows have the teams do it again. Each team is trying to break the “record”.
Softball Throw- Each team will be throwing softballs at targets on the softball fence. Members will throw the softball at a target and will try to hit inside the target. Each target is worth a certain number of points. Highest target on fence is worth 2 points and bottom targets are worth 1 point. Just add the total number of points up to see if they have beaten the “record.” Each team is trying to break the “record”.
Plunger Run- Each team will line up at the start line. The first person from a team will run the track with a plunger in hand with a ball on top of it and continue to the finish. Once that person is finished they will hand off the plunger to the next person and they will go. Time the entire team and the fastest time will have the “record.” Each team is trying to break the “record.”
Bowling Pin Toss- Each person on a team will get two tosses. The first person will step up to the line hanging onto the bowling pin. They will turn around and have their back facing the direction they are throwing. They will toss the bowling pin over their head and then take their second throw. Once they are finished the next team member will go. With a flag provided mark the furthest toss. The furthest toss is the record and each team is trying to break the record.
